Is This You?

What People Say

”I HAD to tell you about this past week. It was if I was a different person in a way! I cleaned my studio…! AND I started drawing again! I ate more healthy…In other words something seemed to shift so that a lot of action blocks unblocked! Realizing that I don’t need to wait to ’feel like I want to’ as well as I don’t have to use force and that there is ANOTHER way has been remarkably transformative! It’s as if like all the concepts have come together including the concept of having faith in the process which keeps me going during the most confusing chaotic times. Also this week I didn’t actually sit down to focus but I found myself almost always in a Focusing process. It was so interesting! At every place where I sensed a block I took a moment to sense what it was all about. I tried to stay very aware of when I might be using force and I was clued in of course when something in me would start to feel ’yuck, I don’t wanna!’. I see and more importantly have experienced these parts don’t have to go away for me to move forward. And it can happen without force!”
 – Diane Olsen, NJ

“What is most memorable and has stayed with me is the the experience, the encouragement and support I received in Focusing sessions to be OK with the experience of not-knowing. To stay with oneself – to accept the ’I don’t know’ – that place that feels fuzzy, unclear, or even blank. The training I received to be with that place even for a few minutes has really helped me honor the kind of change I am willing to go through. For instance, ending a job that no longer feels good, without knowing what I want to do next. Allowing myself to stay in the present and not know – to wait, to listen for clues, an inspiration. That authentic thought or voice that indicates how I am really feeling or what I am really needing – that which will guide me into the next phase of development or action. ... I am very grateful for the permission and clarity Focusing has given me – to be OK with the not knowing space. I believe it allows me to take more risks and to be true to myself as is possible at this time. Thank you!”
– Judy Lamar, CA

“I feel so stuck...”

“Deep down I feel unworthy...”

“My emotions are too much for me...”

Focusing is a process for anyone who wants to know themselves better, tap into fresh life energy, and get beyond stuck patterns. Here are some of the most common themes we hear from our clients:

Action Blocks: Not Doing Tasks or Creative Projects
“I feel so stuck, I can do anything except what I most need to do. When I put some task Number One on my priority list, then I find myself doing anything but that. Now I’m so far behind on the important things, I feel like I’ll never dig out.”

“I’ve been wanting to get to my painting forever, but every time I think about it, there always seems to be some excuse, something delaying or distracting me. I’ve even got a studio arranged, I’ve got all the materials, and I still don’t do it! Why?”

Focusing lets you listen to the blocking part of you in such a way that the block releases.

Inner Critic: Feeling Shame or Unworthiness
“My life is going so well externally, but deep down I feel unworthy, like a faker. People seem to look up to me, even depend on me, but I keep thinking, if only they knew! And then I feel like I have to work even harder, to hide that. And I am so tired.”

“I can’t seem to get past the baseline feeling of being inadequate, not good enough... I keep feeling that other people are better than I am. And what comes next is the feeling that this means I can’t be loved. So better not try. And all this is so immature, I just give up on myself!”

Focusing lets you turn inner critics into allies and wise advisors.

Overwhelming Emotions, Trauma
“My emotions are too much for me. If I sit still and get quiet, the sadness and the rage just take over. I have to keep moving, or eat, or something. I wish I had a better way to be with myself, but I’m just scared of what I’ll find in there.”

Focusing lets you relate to your strong emotions without getting overwhelmed by them.

Numb or Absent Emotions
“I know I have some issues to work on, but I can’t seem to feel anything about them. People tell me I need to feel my feelings to make progress, but I come up blank.”

Focusing lets you become more aware of subtle and hard-to-define feelings that have meaning and information about your life.

Focusing can help people struggling with:
procrastination
blocks to creativity
frustration
emotional numbness
self-criticism
difficulty with decisions
too much emotion
something “missing” from your life
