Three Myths about Happiness:

Number 1
“If I’m happy then I’m an airhead – I’m not seeing the truth about this painful world we live in.” Actually, feeling happy is possible even in a conflictual world, and gives you the energy and resilience you need to do what you can to help.

“If I’m happy then I’m bypassing the depths of my own emotional pain.” Actually, feelings of happiness allow you to grow more compassionate toward your own vulnerable, hurting, inner parts… and more able to give them healing presence.

“If I’m happy then I won’t improve/get better/change my life.” Actually, when you feel happy in a grounded, embodied way, you have more ability to see what needs changing in your life and to take appropriate action.

About the Course:

I created this new course on Happiness because I wanted to explore all the ways we stop our own happiness, and what we can do to increase happiness day by day. That includes: feeling proud of our own accomplishments, enjoying the people in our lives as they are, and being able to say Yes to what we love. I’m so excited to share this with you!

Join us for this brand new course from Ann Weiser Cornell where you will:

  • Learn to look for the positive without ignoring the negative
  • Grow your ability to say Yes to what you love
  • Discover how to appreciate yourself (and others) more
  • Find out what to do with negativity so it doesn’t get you down
  • Increase your power to feel happiness every day

Happiness & Hard Moments – A Personal Story from Ann

When I was going through the worst time of my life, I learned a great lesson about happiness.

My sister was dying of cancer, and we had just learned that my brother had been diagnosed with a fast-moving cancer as well. My 80-year-old mother and I were the “last left standing.”

On this day, Mom and I were taking a walk through the neighborhood where my sister lived, taking a break from sitting at her bedside. I remember wondering which was more painful, feeling my own sadness or seeing what my mother was going through.

Then she stopped and pointed at a stunning flower in someone’s yard. I held her hand and we stood together, taking in the beauty that was in front of us. “Right now, here and in this moment, we are together and this is beautiful.” I remember feeling joy wash through my body, with the oddly pleasant sensation that the joy didn’t do away with the sadness, it just came in next to it, like a resource.

When we got back to my sister’s bedside I felt more able to smile at her with love and celebrate her life, and my mom was feeling more lightness as well.
