About the Course
I know what it’s like to want to express yourself and feel blocked. I had writer’s block for years, knowing I had so much in me to express, and not being able to do it. It was very painful, and had elements of shame and frustration as well as longing.
When I found a way to use Focusing to release my writer’s block, I knew I had found a process that I wanted to share with others. Over the years I have helped many people be more expressive of what in them is longing to be expressed… from writers, to musicians, to poets… This method can work for anyone who feels the longing to be more expressive of something inside you.
What I discovered is that blocks to creative expression can be seen as an inner war involving criticizing or shaming parts of us that are afraid of other people’s reactions, other parts that get scared nothing will happen and start to push – and rebellious parts that don’t want to be pushed. The combination of these warring parts results in a perfect impasse! It might feel impossible… but change is quite possible, and I will show you how.
What We’ll Be Doing
In this course, I’ll teach you a step-by-step process to help you get unblocked and bring your gifts into the world. It’s based on Inner Relationship Focusing, a body-based method for bringing radical acceptance to yourself. When you turn with curiosity toward what has been blocking you, and listen deeply without getting caught up in the struggle, inner critics and rebels begin to relax and your creativity flows again.
In a safe and supportive atmosphere that respects your inner sense of rightness, you start with a blocked creative expression and follow it through a series of exercises to release what’s been holding the block in place. You will take home skills to use over and over whenever life gets stuck.
About the Teacher
How Online Courses Work
We use Zoom, an online video conference platform, to connect you to other students and the teacher. Before the class starts you will receive a Zoom link to use each time the class meets. You can join us via your camera-equipped computer, tablet, or smart phone. Prefer not to be on video? You can turn off your camera. Don’t want to call via computer? You can call in by phone. Zoom is free and easy to use. You will be able to sign on in advance to make sure you can access it, but we’ve had very few problems with it. Students also receive access to a private webpage where course materials can be found.
