Advanced Untangling Demo Course

Learn how Ann Weiser Cornell and Barbara McGavin guide students through Untangling sessions.

Are you ready to go further with developing your Untangling skills?

If you want to get better at facilitating a complex, multi-layered process like Untangling, perhaps the best way is to observe the creators of the method in action.

When you participated in Untangling with Ann and Barbara, you watched them demonstrate each step with each other. You probably wondered what it would be like to see them work with other people. This Advanced Untangling Demo Course is your chance.

This is a rare opportunity being offered only to those who’ve taken Getting Free: A Year of Untangling, or an Untangling retreat, or are in our Certification program. Because of that shared background, Barbara and Ann will be able to describe what they are doing and thinking at an advanced level.

What will happen in this course

Each week, Ann or Barbara will facilitate an Untangling session with one of the course participants.

We will then discuss the session, exploring questions such as:

  • How can a facilitator support the Focuser in maintaining Self-in-Presence?
  • How do you recognize what type of Part(s) the Focuser is with?
  • How can a facilitator support a Focuser in being with a Part the way it needs?
  • How did the facilitator help if the Focuser got identified with a Part that was trying to understand or figure out the Tangle?
  • When the Focuser becomes identified with an unacknowledged Part, what can a facilitator do in response?
  • When new feelings and meanings emerge, how can a facilitator help the Focuser distinguish between “whole self” experiences and “partial self” (Parts-y) experiences?
  • And many more!

There’s so much we’d love to show you about how to support someone in an Untangling process.

Hope to see you there!

Meet Your Teachers

Ann Weiser Cornell

Ann Weiser Cornell struggled with painful addiction, anxiety in social situations, and an inability to do the thing she most wanted to do – write.

Ann created Inner Relationship Focusing with her long-time colleague, Barbara McGavin, to help alleviate the thinking and feeling cycles that kept her stuck in hard places. It changed her life, and it became her mission to help others create quiet miracles in their lives too.

For over 35 years now, Ann’s been teaching this practical, revolutionary process to people all over the world.

Barbara McGavin
Barbara McGavin

Barbara McGavin struggled with feeling inadequate, worthless, and deeply inferior, no matter what she accomplished.

Since 1991, she has been developing Inner Relationship Focusing with Ann Weiser Cornell. Since 1994, the two of them have been exploring Focusing in some of the most difficult areas of life. Untangling® has grown out of this and is the core of Barbara’s own Focusing practice.

Barbara’s other great interest is in how Focusing can be used in the creative arts. She has developed a process called From Spark to Beacon to help people develop and release their creative capacities.
