Before I talk about this week's topic, you might be wondering what happened with my computer disaster that I wrote about last time. I said my computer had crashed, my backup was bad too, and I may have lost four months of work on my laptop. And I said, thanks to Focusing, my stomach was calm.
Turns out I just lost 2 1/2 months… and amazingly, I had recently made copies or mailed to people everything really important. So I still have the photos from Italy… and all the work I did on my new CD set on Releasing Blocks to Action… Yes I lost some things but all in all it wasn't bad at all. Thanks for asking!
Are You Worried?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There's a lot to worry about, isn't there?
You might be worried about your job, your savings, your mortgage. You might be worried about your health. You might be worried about someone in your family–their job, their mortgage, their health. The list goes on.
And if you are worried, you might notice how that feels in your body, where that hits you. Mine is pretty much always in my stomach, a clenching. If it gets bad, it's clenching and burning at the same time.
If I forget to do Focusing, I get consumed by worry. I am worried.
And then, by some sort of alchemy, whatever I'm worried might happen becomes certain to happen. I will run out of money. The pain in my side is cancer.
I don't know how that happens–it's a mystery to me! But I know know this: the first step to getting my whole self back is to reverse that process and acknowledge that "something in me" is worried that that might happen. My stomach relaxes a bit right there.
Worry is "Not Wanting"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My next step to an even more relaxed stomach is to acknowledge that what that part of me is worried about is what it is not wanting. Like this:
"I'm sensing that something in me is worried I will run out of money. I'm acknowledging that… and I'm letting it know I hear that running out of money is what it is not wanting to have happen to me."
That's right! It might seem obvious… but it's amazing what a relief comes right there, when we acknowledge that what we're worried about is what we're not wanting to have happen. There's a sense of empowerment, as fresh energy comes in, and fresh perspective. I can thank the part of me that doesn't want me to run out of money, at the same time that I can sense, from my larger perspective, that that isn't very likely to happen. (And even if it did, it would be an interesting adventure!)
By the way, if you are worried about money, isn't it great how cost-effective Focusing is? It's a skill you can use yourself, with your family, with friends, taking the empowerment of your personal growth into your own hands. Good stuff.
