Something that Pushes and Something that Resists
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you're not doing what you want to do, or you're not comfortable with how long it's taking, you might need to to acknowledge two interesting parts inside you: something that pushes and something that resists.
Something in you that pushes is often a part of you that is anxious or eager for the action to get done. It could be critical, harsh, and blaming, calling you "lazy" or worse… or it could be reasonable, practical, helpful, offering ideas like: "Just get up earlier in the morning!" As time goes by and the action doesn't get done, it gets a hint of panic and desperation in its voice.
At the same time there is likely to be another part of you that is silently refusing to do the action–just not doing it. And maybe you can tell, when you sit quietly and sense into all this, that as the pushing part gets more and more anxious and insisting, the resisting part gets more and more stubborn. Impasse.
And then we wonder: How can this ever change? They both feel so strong, so determined! (And maybe the pushing part just doesn't feel strong enough!)
Self-in-Presence is Neither Pushing Nor Resisting
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

When a knot gets tighter and tighter by pulling, then more pulling isn't going to help. And when pushing and forcing isn't working, we know that adding on more pushing and forcing isn't likely to make the situation better.

So let's step back, instead. Let's pause… breathe… feel the support of what we're sitting or standing on… and with an exhale, relax into that support. Good. And then say an inner "Hello" to the part that's pushing… and then an inner "Hello" to the part that resists being pushed… Very good. Now, does that feel different?

When you are Self-in-Presence, you are neither of those parts, neither pushing nor resisting. You can take some time to sense which of them needs the first turn to let you know how it feels, what it's worried about, what it's trying to help you with. To listen to it, and let it know you hear it.

And when the way forward opens up before you, it will be you as Self-in-Presence who moves forward into centered action, neither hurried nor delayed.
