Might there be a root cause of your migraines (or other recurring physical condition)? Read on…
Dear Readers:
Two weeks ago I sent you a Weekly Tip about Focusing with migraine headaches.
The next day I heard from Robert Sheeler, MD, who is a Certified Focusing Professional who offers Headache Specialty Care as part of his Family Medicine practice in Scottsdale AZ.
It’s a pleasure to pass along Bob’s further tips!
He writes:
“I have been using Focusing for my Migraine patients to help them explore the root cause drivers of what is sustaining the pattern.
“Is the migraine telling you something through your body that your mind will not acknowledge? For example, the migraines can be a pop-off valve when things get overloaded because you don’t rest, sleep, eat well, or de-stress, so your body takes control and sends the signal that you have to do these things at least for a few hours or days.
“You can also ask if it is something that protects you. Like, if I have chronic headaches I don’t have to show up in my relationship, I don’t have to try to write my second novel which I am afraid will never be as good as my first. Etc.”
Thank you, Bob! It seems to me that these are great questions to ask in a Focusing way (open-ended, curious) of any chronic or recurring symptom or condition. And then of course, if the answer is that there is something there to take a look at, we can turn toward that “something” with compassion and curiosity.
I love Focusing!
