What if you want to do Focusing but you don’t have time? Read on…
A Reader writes:
I’m experiencing stress and big change in a number of areas of my life, including needing to be there for my aging parents. There are a lot of things I have to take care of, appointments, planning…
I did learn Focusing, and it helped, but now I feel I can’t afford the time. How do I get the benefit of Focusing when there’s always something more urgent demanding my attention?
Dear Reader:
I’m sorry you’re having to go through that… and I have good news for you. You can get a lot of the benefit of Focusing in a moment — literally 60 seconds.
Let me tell you how.
The secret is to pause.
Pause — right there — right where you are right now, and take your next conscious breath. Feel your feet… and let your hand go to your heart. Say to yourself, “I am here.”
And be open to a “knowing” or a message that may come from within, right there, even in that short time.
It might be: “I’m tired.”
Or: “This is hard.”
Or it might be: “What I most need to do now is ____.”
What do you do if you get a message from inside like, “I’m tired” or “This is hard”?
You let it know you hear it.
No, you don’t have to solve it or fix it or find the answer to it. The truth is, what it most needs from you, right at that moment, is to hear it.
That might seem like not much, to say back to yourself, “I hear how tired you are,” or “I really get that this is hard.” But it can make a huge difference in how present you feel, and how much energy you have to go forward.
Because now, you are here. All of you, being with this, how you are feeling now. It doesn’t take very long. It’s a pause that can make a powerful difference in your whole mood, your whole day.
Let me know how it goes!
